Shane Brinton
At 22, Arcata City Councilmember Shane Brinton is the youngest elected official in Humboldt County. He serves as the City of Arcata’s representative to the Humboldt Transit Authority. He also serves as the city’s liaison to the Arcata Chamber of Commerce and the Arcata Endeavor. Prior to his election to the city council, he served on the Governing Board of the Northern Humboldt Union High School District, to which he was elected at the age of 18.
Born and raised in Arcata, Brinton was brought up in a culture of activism and volunteerism. He has an extensive background in community organizing and electoral politics. The Tenants’ Union of Northern Humboldt, Food Not Bombs, and the Redwood Peace and Justice Center are among the organizations he has been involved with. Last year, before his own election, he managed the successful campaign of Humboldt County Supervisor Mark Lovelace.
In addition to his service on the city council, Brinton works in the Marketing and Development Department at a local nonprofit. When he is not working or volunteering, he enjoys going to Crabs baseball games, playing guitar, riding his bicycle, hanging out at the Farmers’ Market, and spending time with his family and friends.
