| Anne Holcomb moved from Maine to Humboldt County in December of 2001. She has over 20 years of experience working as a nonprofit administrator on behalf of organizations serving people with disabilities, and now serves as the Executive Director of Food for People, the Food Bank for Humboldt County. Anne also serves as Vice President of the Board of Directors for the California Association of Food Banks, Chairs the Association’s Membership and Governance Committee and is a member of their Public Policy Committee.
Past experience includes roles as executive director of an information and support organization for parents of children with special needs; coordinator of the Maine Meeting Place, an online bulletin board service for people with disabilities and their families; manager of a computer recycling program; project coordinator for the Transition Project, assisting students with disabilities and their families with planning for adult life and work after school; and consulting work on assistive technology and special education for the Maine Department of Education. She also managed a group home, day program, independent living program and employment programs for developmentally disabled adults. The “food connection” comes from several years of managing her own catering business and working as a volunteer to coordinate a local food buying cooperative.
Food for People’s services reaches 9,000-10,000 low income children, families, seniors and other individuals each month. Their goal is to provide individuals and households with the emergency and supplemental food they need, while working to address the root causes of hunger in our county. Ms. Holcomb is very committed to providing a voice for some of the most vulnerable members of our community and feels strongly that community engagement at all levels is needed if we want to truly change the face of hunger and poverty in Humboldt County.
